Juan Garcia

Customer Services Assistant

Administrative Services

B.A. Sociology, UC Berkeley

How did you get here?
After finishing my undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley, I decided I wanted to stay in the area and work for UCB. Luckily, I found a job in campus with the Graduate Student Services office doing support work for their Advising services. After working a few years in the Fellowships and Degrees units there, I decided I wanted to try a new office that also did counseling and advising services. I found a position at Career Center, got offered the job, and took it!.

What's cool about your job?
I get to work in a dynamic center where students and alumni are helped in making decisions in choosing the type of career and work they want to do after graduating. It's also cool to get an inside view of the work done to make workshops and info sessions happen and the other services provided here. The staff I work with are friendly and supportive so that's a big plus!.

What's the best career advice anyone has given you?
If possible, pick a career or job that best aligns with your personal values and ideally with your long term goals. You may first have to start somewhere you may not find as fulfilling, but build up that work experience and do things in your free time to explore things that best bring job and positivity into your life
