What is Handshake?

Handshake is the fast and powerful recruiting platform for sourcing UC Berkeley students and alumni.  It uses cutting edge technology to better connect you with qualified candidates.

Use Handshake to post job and internship listings, register for career fairs, manage on-campus recruiting, advertise your events, and message students and alumni who meet your qualifications. You will also be able to promote your brand more effectively by customizing your employer profile, job postings, and events to be more visually appealing to students.

How do I register for Handshake?

Handshake offers a thorough article describing how to register and get started.  Make sure you select University of California Berkeley as one of your schools.  Once you've requested to connect with Berkeley it can take up to 3-5 days to approve your account.

I registered for Handshake and am waiting approval. What can I do to get approved?

Why hasn’t my employer account at Berkeley been approved yet?

Under normal circumstances it typically takes 3-5 days to process pending employer approval requests. If your request is not complete in this timeframe, please log into Handshake and check your notifications for any comments on your registration. If the registration is incomplete, e.g. there is no web site address or the email domain does not match your company, there can be a delay in approval.

I registered as a new user for my employer and I’m waiting for someone to approve me. How do I get approved?

Each contact in your organization with a Handshake user profile will receive an email and can approve you.  If, for some reason, this is not possible, you can contact the Career Center at ocr@berkeley or 510-642-0464 and we can approve you as well.

I’m trying to add UC Berkeley as a school, but I can’t find it in Handshake.

We are listed in the Handshake system as University of California Berkeley.  Try typing "Berkeley" to narrow down your search.

I joined the wrong organization. How do I fix this?

How do I create a job posting?

I created a job posting, but now I can’t find it.

Your job will not actually post to a school and show up under Job Postings until your account is approved at a particular school.  You should be able to find all jobs under Postings/Jobs/All.

I created a job posting, but I’m not getting any applications. What can I do?

Make sure you have a descriptive job title, e.g., Customer Service Assistant instead of just Assistant.  The job duties and qualifications should be clear and specific. To help you promote the position, you can reach out to student organizations or consider using our Student Email Service to send a targeted email.

How do I register for a fair?

In Handshake, click Fairs on the left menu.  To find upcoming Berkeley fairs, search for “Berkeley” in the key word field. Click on the fair name, then the "Register" button on the next page.

Where do I find my fair registrations?

In Handshake, click Fairs on the left menu and then select "Show Registered Only." We recommend you click “Follow Career Fair” on fairs you’ve registered for to receive updates and easily find them in the future.

How do I request on-campus interview dates?

If you don’t see “Request an Interview” on your Handshake home page for Berkeley, contact ocr@berkeley.edu or 510-642-0464 to request access to the service.  If you do see "Request an Interview" and still need assistance, please review this Handshake help article.

How do I book an information session?

Please visit this page for step-by-step instructions on booking info sessions.  It is your responsibility to find a venue, make all of the arrangements with that venue, then notify the Career Center.
 

How do I advertise my information session?

Once you have finalized all of the details, post the event on Handshake by going to "Create an Event" from your Handshake home page.  If you do not see this option, email ocr@berkeley.edu to ask for permission to "post events" on Handshake.  Also consider using our Student Email Service to send a targeted email to students in Handshake.
