Employer Services - Post Jobs & Internships on Handshake

Enter your job and internship listings for free on Handshake.  Handshake is a fast and powerful recruiting platform for connecting with UC Berkeley students and recent alumni.  We serve all undergraduate students and most graduate students except for a few professional schools.  Refer to this page for a list of campus recruiting contacts for specialized populations, including MBA and Law.

Off-Campus Employers

How to List a Job/Internship

1.  Go to the Handshake log in page to create an account.  Click on "No Account? Sign up Here" on the top right hand side of the page.  On the next page, click on the "Are you an employer?  Sign up here" link to get started.  For help, visit Handshake's support page.  Once you have signed up, you will receive an email to verify your information.

2.  Click on the "Confirm Email" link in the email to finish the registration process.  If you do not receive this email within an hour, refer to this Handshake article that will troubleshoot the missing confirmation email.

3.  You will be taken to a page where you can join an existing account if your organization already has one.  In that case, select the Request button next to the correct employer name to join that account.  Otherwise, select the Create New Company button to create a new account for your organization.

If you joined an existing account, the Owner of the account will receive an email in order to approve your access to Handshake.  If you created a new account, it will be approved within 3-5 business days.

4.  Now that you have registered, you can post a job.  Log in to Handshake and select Post a Job from the homepage.  Read Handshake's How do I post a Job? article for more information.

If you need assistance, go to the Handshake Help Center.  If it has been more than 7 days and you have not received an email that your account has been approved, contact Employer Relations.

UC Berkeley Employers

How to List a Job/Internship

Campus departments are required to post all student employment positions on Handshake.  You may also post any other campus positions appropriate for new or recent graduates.  All work study positions must also be posted on the Work Study site.

1.  Go to the Handshake login page to create a department profile.  Click on "No Account? Sign up Here" on the top right hand side of the page.  On the next page, click on the "Are you an employer?  Sign up here" link to get started.  For help, visit Handshake's support page.  Once you have signed up, you will receive an email to verify your information.

2.  Click on the "Confirm Email" link in the email to finish the registration process.  If you do not receive this email within an hour, refer to this Handshake article that will troubleshoot the missing confirmation email.

3.  You will be taken to a page with a long list of department names.  Carefully search for your department's name.  Please do not join the general University of California or UC Berkeley Career Center account.  If your department name is listed, select the Request button next to the correct department name to join that account.

If your department name is not listed, select Create New Company to create a new account for your department.  Important Tip: preface your campus department name with UC Berkeley, e.g., UC Berkeley College of Chemistry.  You will be able to enter a division once your account had been approved, e.g., Health & Safety Program.

Household Employers

How to List a Job

Many community members use Handshake to post tutoring, childcare/eldercare, manual labor and other household type positions.

1.  Go to the Handshake login page to create a profile.  Click on "No Account?  Sign up Here" on the top right hand side of the page.  On the next page, click on the "Are you an employer?  Sign up here" link to get started.  You will be prompted to use a "company" email, but you can go ahead and sign up with a gmail, yahoo, or other 3rd party email.  For help getting started, visit Handshake's support.  Once you have signed up, you will receive an email to verify your information.

2.  Once you receive the verification email, click on the "Confirm Email" link in the email to finish the registration process.

3.  You will now be taken to a page where you will enter your employer information.  Select the Create New Company button on the right had side of the page, even though you are not a company.

Important Tips:

  • In the company name field, enter your full name or your last name and Family or Household, e.g., Smith Household;
  • In the web site field, enter https://career.berkeley.edu/Parttime/LookingForParttimeWork
  • In the description field, enter a description of who you are, e.g., individual or household/family.  Do not enter the job here.  You will have a chance to do that once your account has been approved.

After you have finished creating your account, it will be approved within 3-5 business days.

4. Now that you have registered, you can post a job.  Log in to Handshake and select Post a Job from the homepage.  View Handshake's How do I post a Job? article for more information.
