International Career Symposium
October 24-25, 2007

A special event of on-campus panels and presentations covering a wide spectrum of international internship and career-related topics of interest to students in all majors, alumni, the broader campus community, and the public. No registration required.

The funding for this annual event has been made possible by the generous support of Harvey Masonek, a Cal Alumnus of the College of Letters and Science.

"Had I Only Known...": Working and Living Abroad

What’s life really like in the international arena? Ambassador Martin Brennen demystifies it, sharing his words of wisdom gleaned from years of experience in Africa, Asia, and Europe. He will address what you need to know--and have no idea you need to know--before you go abroad for a public or private sector position.

International Careers 101

A team of international career management experts from the Monterey Institute of International Studies will provide an overview of how to prepare for an international career with tips for getting started in different fields within the international arena, including language-related professions (policy and business) and language-based professions (teaching, translation and interpretation).

International human rights intersects with every facet of daily life: health, politics, quality of life, the environment and culture. Professionals in the field give their insights about what is important for success in the field and how you can prepare yourself for international human rights work through internships and other experiences.

Teaching English Overseas
