Students with Disabilities

Specialized advising is available in the Career Center to discuss disability or health-related concerns regarding your job search. Call 642-1716 ext.6 to schedule an appointment with Meriah Hudson. Also schedule an appointment with a counselor specializing in your area of study or interest.

Meriah is also at the Disabled Students Program, 230 Chavez Student Center for drop-in advising every Monday from 2:30-4:00pm.

The Lois I. Hogan Endowment provides a $1000 grant each year for a student with a disability who is in need of financial assistance in order to gain work experience while at UC Berkeley. A student is eligible to apply who is currently working or has been offered a student job or internship (paid or nonpaid). Grant application deadline is mid-April. The Career Center has an Accessible Workstation equipped with assistive technology software. This includes the screen reader Window Eyes, the voice recognition software Dragon Naturally Speaking and TextHelp Read&Write which is a toolbar combining a dictionary, thesaurus, grammar checker, word predictor, homophone support, OCR, and many other features.

In addition, the Career Center can provide physical assistance in the Information Lab and possibly arrange for alternative formatting of resource materials.
