The Career Center at the University of California Berkeley conducts an annual survey of the initial postgraduate activities of its Bachelor’s degree students. The 2007 survey cohort consists of graduates from August 2006, December 2006, and May 2007. Beginning with the 2006 survey year, students with double and triple majors are represented in each of their majors, whereas in past years their data were only presented in their primary major.
The 2007 overall response rate was 47.4% (3570 majors out of 7527). The largest percentage of students in the class of 2007 chose employment after graduation – 61.9% were either employed full time or were still searching six months after graduation. Students matriculating to graduate school were 18.9%. The remaining students were engaged in other endeavors such as self-employment, part-time employment, internship and volunteer experiences, service in the armed forces, taking a year off or other pursuits. The profile for the class of 2006 revealed fairly similar results. That year, 63.7% had found or sought employment and 22% had entered graduate school.
