The Career Center at the University of California Berkeley conducts an annual survey of the initial postgraduate activities of its Bachelor’s degree students. With the goal of providing survey results more quickly, a change in survey cohorts was made in 2006, and the 2006 survey results are based on information for December 2005 and May 2006 graduates only. Future surveys will begin with Summer degree recipients and close with those from the following Spring.

Beginning with this survey year, students with double and triple majors
were represented in each of their majors, whereas in past years their
data were only presented in their primary major. The 2006 overall response rate was 36.0% (2093 students out of 5820). The majority of students in the class of 2006 chose employment after graduation - 63.7 percent either were employed full time or were still searching six months after graduation. Students matriculating to graduate school were 22%, rising slightly compared to 2005. The remaining students were engaged in other endeavors such as self-employment (0.9%), part-time employment (3.0%), internship and volunteer experiences (4.3%), service in the armed forces (0.4%), taking a year off (2.5%) or other pursuits (1.2%). The profile for the class of 2005 revealed similar results. That year, 65.3 percent had found or sought employment and 20.9 percent had entered graduate school. |
